Should Fergie Move for Hazard?Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has this week confirmed that the club are chasing Lille's highly rated playmaker Eden Hazard, a man who seems to have been on the radar of a number of top European football clubs, including Arsenal, Real Madrid (where Zinedine Zidane, the club's sporting director, is known to be a huge admirer) and Spurs, for a while now yet is still only 21 years of age. The player, widely known for his pace, became the youngest pro footballer to turn out in France's Ligue 1 when he made his debut for Lille at the age of 16 and has since scored 32 goals in 142 domestic games for the club, who are loathe to let him leave despite the player expressing a desire to move to England a few months ago, but may have no choice in the face of sustained pressure from the likes of United, who are favourites in the sports betting to land the star. |
However, with Rooney, Welbeck, and Hernandez representing something of an embarrassment of riches up top, should Ferguson in fact be looking towards other parts of his squad when it comes to serious summer strengthening? The United defence this season has at times been uncharacteristically woeful, and much of that has to do with the lack of pace of Rio Ferdinand, a problem that seems to get worse with each passing week, the naivety of Jonny Evans, and the gung-ho attitude of Rafael, whose twin brother is apparently being lined up for a loan move away from Old Trafford next season. United's shaky live scores results this season, which may yet prevent them from winning the league, haven't been caused by issues in the final third, but by errors at the back, where David De Gea is also still to win over his doubters. In light of this, perhaps it really would be something of a hazard to bring Hazard to Old Trafford this summer...
